These alternating spikes of spiritual and secular moments represent the crest of a wave that
moves slowly down the length of our civilization. The occurance or popularity of war or religion
is not random, but dependant upon the mood of the nation and the relative position of the
generations within what Strauss and Howe call the generational constellation.
