Once upon a time, the factors of production included land,
labor, and capital. Those with the land were called kings, those with the
labor called serfs or slaves, and eventually, those with the capital capitalists.
Today, those with land and capital still remain powerful; labor has achieved a tenuous middle classness. But there has come to the scene a new factor of production ! Knowledge, long valuable to the powerful, is becoming easier to measure,
package, and sell. Cultivating knowledge workers is high among every industrialized
nation's goals, intellectual property is the driving force behind silicon
valley, and who can forget the importance of leveraging our knowledge assets!
